Tweedmouth St Bartholomew Marriage 1916 Look Up, please
« on: Monday 14 January 13 22:18 GMT (UK) »
Fingers crossed that I finally have the correct one! Its a guess, but I really think the church would be St Bartholomew.

Final quarter of 1916 (sorry don't have an exact date)

Groom: Robert NAIRN , age 25 +/- a year
Bride: Margaret J PRINGLE

If anyone could look up the details I would be grateful

Thank you

Boo

Unless you know which church the marriage took place in - it can't be looked up in parish records so you would have to buy a copy

It may have been a civil marriage

Census Information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Thanks Carole, I am not 100% certain (am I ever, about anything?) but if this is the marriage I am looking for then I would expect it to be in the Anglican Parish Church at Tweedmouth.

Have altered the subject heading.

and thanks to the kindness of C-side, who looked it up for me at Woodhorn, I now have the details for this marriage
Robert Nairn age 25, bachelor, Munition worker of 30 First Street  Father James Nairn, Quarryman
Margaret Jane Pringle age 24, spinster of Murton Farm. Father James Pringle, Farm worker

Witnesses - Isabella Swanston and Thomas Nesbitt Mather

and now I can order a copy of the entry from the archives :-)

I do sometimes wonder if they are aware just how much income must be generated by the kindness of Rootschatters like C-side who help us with look-ups. I 'want' to purchase the copies but my budget doesn't stretch to the 'research fees' for archives to identify the record first.

Thanks for that, Boo, but I reckon they probably see me as one who prevents them earning search fees  ;D

Quite the contrary C-side.
They have little understanding of user needs if that is what they think. I spent over 100 pounds there in the summer and a good proportion of it was because you and other helpful folks had done some groundwork during the year that helped me to use my short summer hol as efficiently as possible to get straight to the records I wanted to buy copies of :) Without your help it would have taken me 2-3 years to reach the point where I was ready to order as much.
Looking forward to lunch again the next time I get over :)

:-)  If ever they say that to you, just point them in my direction!

I am not saying that their research fees are excessive, just that they are way beyond my budget. Travelling to the archives to find the records for myself is also outside my budget.

If you (and people like you) didn't help with dates so I can then order the specific document, then I'd just have to do without the copies and the archives wouldn't get the orders from me. I do try to document my research 'properly' and copies of original records are high on my wish list.

So your help, so freely given, 'is' beneficial to the archives and much appreciated by lots of folk :-)

I am with you on that one Boo. I cannot hop over the North Sea regularly and now they have even shut off the option of taking a long weekend to research as they are shut on Sun and Mon. Difficult to specify research well enough to get anything useful out of buying an hour from them.
