Hi ,
Yes , William and Frances had 11 children in total .
Nicholas is named in his Uncle Nathaniel will in 1740  along with the other of Williams surviving children
He is living in Smithfield in London .I have not  seen his name in any Quaker records and he may have married out of faith or just left  ??
Will let you know if I find any further details .I am visiting the Keep at  Brighton in a few weeks to have a look at some of the Wills they have their .
My line is  via  William and Frances nee Suter ---son Thomas and Ann  nee Gibson ----- their daughter Mary (1754 )  who married John Gillam .My maiden name was Gillam .
best wishes  Yvonne

Thank you vonne. I am from Thomas Nevell and Ann Gibson's son John. In August, my mother, brother and I are travelling to Scotland and Northern England to visit areas of our family history. My mother's maiden name was Groat so we are off to John O'Groat. My maiden name is Gaunt so we will visit Pudsey in Yorkshire. We will also visit York and Richmond where Thomas Readford was from. he married Elizabeth Nevell.

Unfortunately we are not going south. As my mother is 91 we felt that it would be too much this time. I do hope to do it in the future.

Happy research in Brighton. I would love to hear about you successes.

Cheers
Denise

Hello vonne.

You said in your last post: "Nicholas is named in his Uncle Nathaniel will in 1740 along with the other of Williams surviving children. He is living in Smithfield in London."

Can you please advise why you think Nicholas has moved to Smithfield, London?

Thanks .....

Why do I think Nicholas Bead was living in Smithfield ??

I lost some of my Beard notes  after a computer failure .I will have to have a look through some paper work and check .I think I found some thing about Smithfield  in another family will  too  and maybe at the Quaker Library.I kno wthat I found hinvery difficult to trace.

Have you seen a copy of Nathaniel Beard's  Will ?

I have just got back from holiday and will have a look asp .

Hello Vonne.

Sorry for the delay in replying: I've been doing solid research at The Keep for the past 3 days!

Yes, I do have Nathaniel Beard's will.  His named Executor is his "nephew Nathaniel Barber of West Smithfield, London".  That nephew was the son of the testator NB's sister Elizabeth (m. Ed. Barber, 1697/8).

His "nephew Nicholas Beard ..." receives five hundred pounds in that will, but there is no mention of his abode.  So I was thinking you might have some other document suggesting he too was living at Smithfield in 1740 .....

Maybe you can help me with the search for my own Holy Grail?  For a very long time I have been trying to establish WHICH Nicholas Beard married Susan Barnham at Brighton St. Nicholas on 17 Jan 1715/6.

Was it the Nicholas Beard born at Brighton on 15 June 1685 (Quaker meeting record), son of William and Frances? .... or was it the Nicholas Beard bapt. 8 Aug 1686 (Brighton St. Nicholas), son of Richard and Mary?  I have a lot of material about all of this, but none of it answers my big question definitively.

If you have any information proving he was definitely one or the other of those two individuals, I would be VERY glad to hear about it!!

Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike ,
Last week I visited the keep too .I  was on a family holiday and decided that on this trip I could only concentrate on one specific family  and looked at the Ayres family  .I  have spent several days in the keep over the past five years !
I have also had a a few visits to the Quaker Library near to Euston and I will have a close look through my notes later today .
Do you know the occupation of " your " Nicholas ?

In William Beard's Will  in 1730 his house in Brighton is  left to his son Nicholas after the death of his wife .
William wife Frances died in  1738 and I guess Nicholas then lived in their old house in Brighton ?.

A Nicholas Beard  is recorded  as being at the marriage of  William daughters ; Frances  in 1711,Sarah  in 1721 and Elizabeth in 1737  all in the  Sussex area .There does not appear to a  Nicholas  Beard recorded at the marriage of Williams other daughter  Susannah Beard in London in 1701. However Nathaniel Beard  was there .

Hope any of this helps ?
