Im looking for any informatiion about the following people who all lived durign the times shown at Culverden Castle

The 1911 census has him at Culverden Castle, born 1869 Highbury Middlesex, stock jobberl with wife Evelyn May,born 1867 Clushbunt,Kent and his sin Rupert.bprn 1906 T. Wells.A 1813 Kelly records Alfred Hicks as an Alderman in T. Wells,I think he died 1sty qtr 1930 in London.

2) In the 1930's a John Goud lived at Culverden Castle. I have no info on him

3) In period of 1941-1943 Mrs E. Baerlain lived there

4) In period of 1947 a Captain A. Mirles lived there

5) Also have a listing 1944 to 1957 that Mrs M.E. Blunt lived there

The castle was torn down 1959, Any information or photos of the castle or its occupants greatly appreciated.

Also I have a reference to a buglar by the name of Guy Miller who was in the Drum Corp,4th Btan Queen's Own who was in WW 1 and wrote letters from "Culverden Castle Camp",tunbridge Wells to people living in Kirksville, MO which I took to be in Montana, USA. The people he wrote to were B.F. Banfoey and E.E. Swain. Any info about this camp, at Culverden Castle, bugler Guy Miller etc much appreciated.

Not sure if this is a help or hindrance but in 1945 a Carmen Muriel LESTON of Culverden Castle changed her name by deed poll to PATTERSON.  She looks to have died 1994 in Essex (born 11 Sep 1907).

Pte Guy Miller (later a bugler) West Kent Regiment WW1 G/39941 (WW1 medal roll .......... British war medal only).  There is a service record which shows him being born Plymouth, England and current address as 904 E. Washington, Kirksville, Missouri aged 18 years and 2 months as at 19 Jun 1918 (born 1901), occupation student.  Next of kin was mother, Mrs Mabel MILLER, of the same address in Missouri.  There is a form claiming free passage and his name looks like "Jay/Gay Ewing MILLER" on this.  There is also note that he enlisted in the British Army at St Louis, USA.  Edward E SWAIN was the editor and publisher of the Kirksville Daily Express .......... Guy was writing to the British Army using notepaper from the newspaper on his return to the USA.  There is mention in the service records of him being in Tunbridge Wells.  He is in the 1920 census for Kirksville living with his mother and siblings as a "newspaper reporter" ......... Gay MILLER.

These two documents appear to show something about BLUNTs and Culverden Castle ........... laptop's on the go slow at the moment so I can't open them but I can see something about (Lady Blunt) (2) Dame Laura Julia SALOMONS and Mildred Emma.  Dame Laura Julia SALOMONS or GOLDSMID - STERN - SALOMONS of Broomhill. T. Wells died 23 Nov 1935 ....... probate to Vera Frances SALOMONS single woman £34k.  The family (husband David L G S SALOMONS barrister) were at Broomhill, Southborough 1901 census RG13/756 folio 9 page 9.

MIRLES appears to be French from what I can gather.  There was an Albert MILES having a child born in the Tonbridge district in the early 1940s but whether that is relevant I can't say.  There appears to be some movement of the family between France and the US and he could be an Albert MIRLES born France c1914 (a major) :-\

Thank you for the information- a very good start. Is the person who gave information about the buglar Guy Miller a decendent of his family? If yes I sure would like to see a photograph of him, especially in his military uniform. Any info about his father? Any info from anyone as to the military camp set up on the grounds of the castle during WW1 or any photos taken at the camp?

I don't quite understand, the information that I have noted is from official documents not from another person.

Incidentally, all other records give him as being born Missouri as was his mother, Mabel, bc1876.  Also, all other records list him as "Gay" not "Guy".  The 1910 census of Missouri lists his father as (difficult to read) D G MILLER? age 41 born Wisconsin, a com. salesman (on the road).  Mabel's mother is listed as Mary ERVING? (EWING?) age 63 b.Missouri.  They are in Kirksville.  It looks very much like he lied on enlistment (saying he was born in Plymouth, England) ........... to get into the British Army perhaps?

Ok very good. I think all I need to know now is when and where he died and any photo of him  and a photo taken in Tunbridge Wells at the Culverden Castle Camp.

The orginal entrance gates to Culverden Castle are still there.  I lived a couple of hundred yards away from there in Culverden park from 1954 - 1975. I still pass by occasionaly.
