Bentley family - help with 1841 census
« on: Friday 18 January 13 14:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi - I am back to my Bentley family. I was looking at a 1841 census record on Ancestry for John Bentley and because it is difficult to read I was trying to find in on FamilySearch to see if it was more legible, but I couldn't find it there at all. Perhaps someone out there can either read it better or find it on FamilySearch?

The record is 1841, Rochdale, Whitworth and Brandwood, District 2, image 2 of 11. Names that I can read: John, Mary?, Joshua, Martha, Mary & George Bentley. I'm really have trouble with ages; trying to figure out the relationships.

Thanks as always, Lisa

Agree with Carole apart from Martha is 23 - I have a very clear image from my discs. Marys age looks like its been altered but I would say 19.

Hi Mo

I had just corrected my reply above before you posted.  Taking another look at other entries on the page where the 2 is clearer- Martha was probably 23

Hi Radcliff!

yes that would fit as I can't find John/Mary in 1851.  And I am trying to find children of John & Mary; I have several possiblities in Heptonstall, St. Thomas. One is a Betty, b-1808. So if the family left Yorkshire and settled in BridgeMill that would also fit for George to be her son. Also there is a Joshua, b-1799 (have to double-check that; my writing is bad). That would be close for the Joshua in the 1841. They did round the ages, correct?  There also is a Martha, b-1813, but that does't seem to work.  Perhaps I'll post on the Yorkshire board (never posted there) to ask a question about the abodes. Not sure if they make sense. And It probably doesn't help that I'm looking for children of a John & Mary.  I'm sure there are more that one couple with those names there.

thanks again!!  Lisa
