Familysearch - is there a fault?
« on: Friday 18 January 13 18:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi all

I can't seem to find any birth/baptisms on familysearch anymore.  Everytime I put a name in plus the country, county etc. all I get are the marriages.  I've even tried putting in a name that I know for a fact should be there but nothing comes up for that county, just stuff in America.  Anyone else having trouble?

Thanks Jackie, I thought I was going mad.  I found something yesterday, but didn't have time to follow it through and today I can't find it.

Why don't you search the specific database of interest?  If you're looking for a birth in a specific country, then use that database.  If I'm looking for a marriage in Wisconsin, I don't try to search every possible life event in the whole world.
Wiltshire:  Banks, Taylor
Somerset:  Duddridge, Richards, Barnard, Pillinger
Gloucestershire:  Barnard, Marsh, Crossman
Bristol:  Banks, Duddridge, Barnard
Down:  Ennis, McGee
Wicklow:  Chapman, Pepper
Wigtownshire:  Logan, Conning
Wisconsin:  Ennis, Chapman, Logan, Ware
Maine:  Ware, Mitchell, Tarr, Davis

Hi

I've tried it and get the same thing.  Tried searching by the batch number site.

Hi Carol,

After reading your posting I've also tried and can see that things are not as they were.

I put in details of baptisms I previously found on there, specifying the place ie Northumberland, England and I got a number of marriages as a result. Then I tried under England Christenings and the results were nil.

Something has certainly changed and we need to work out how to get to the records we need.

On the other hand maybe the information I had came from the old site but they were not submitted records.....which I am extremely wary of and so should still be there.

Good luck  :)
Best wishes HL

Works OK for me.

You need to go to https://familysearch.org/ the search page has changed recently, so you need to put in a name first, then where it says Restrict records by Location/Type/Batch numbers, I always choose type.  Then England in the Country box (or whatever country is appropriate).  Then it has "Search with a life event:    Birth    Marriage    Residence    Death    Any".  Just click on the one you want or any, then boxes will open up where you can type the birthplace etc. and then relationship, parents or spouse if you know them.

Good luck.
