« on: Friday 18 January 13 23:09 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find parents of William Slater born 1806, but all I get I'd the 1841 census on some of the sites, I know he married Mary Ann Phillips on 8th July 1828.
Any help would be appreciated

William gives p.o.b. as Norwich Norfolk on 1851 census
1841 census only gives "Yes  or No" in  answer to state whether born in county (not town/village etc) they were living in
As William was living in St Martin at Oak it does not necessarily mean he was born there.
1841 census (ages of adults over 15 rounded down to the nearest 5 years)
Oak St
St Martin at Oak Norfolk
William Slater 35 worsted weaver
Elizabeth 11
William 9
Robert 7
Esther 3
all born in county
HO107 789 9 48
as Mary Ann is not on census maybe she had died ???

It seems William possibly remarried

there is this marriage reg FreeBMD
Dec qtr 1842

Purchase of Marriage cert would give father's name & occupation

There is this baptism on family search - which is a possibility for your William

Re the marriage of a William Slater and Judith Ann Leak  in 1842, freereg shows this William a bachelor and a shoemaker and his father was John Slater, vicar - just in case it's relevant later!

Again from freereg is it possible that William re-married twice - looking at children baptised

St Martin at Oak baptisms

Mary Ann 19 Oct 1828 parents William a weaver otp & Mary Ann
Esther Anna(e) 4 mar 1838 parents William a weaver otp and Mary Ann
George 26 Jan 1849 parents William a weaver of St Martin at Oak and Elizabeth - maybe it's a co-incidence!
Susanna 3 Jun 1850 parents William a weaver of St Martin at Oak and Susanna

Heigham St Bartholomew baptisms

Elizabeth 31 Oct 1830 parents William a weaver & Mary Ann
William 21 Oct 1832 parents William a weaver and Mary Ann

Norwich St Benedict baptisms

Robert 30 Nov 1834 parents William a weaver otp and Marianne

PS So far a good possible for William's parents does seem to be William Slater & Esther Betts as Suz suggested but on their marriage record in 1799 it doesn't show William's occupation. The other possible in 1807 with parents William & Ann Garrod etc - their marriage isn't on freereg but maybe a check of the actual parish records might just show something to rule them in - or out! Also do you have a death record for William which might narrow down a birth year of 1804 or 1807 ish?
