Tallent family
« on: Saturday 19 January 13 23:21 GMT (UK) »
My great great grandfather James Tallent was born in Maryborough approx 1818 and married a Margaret Deegan (date and place not known) other than being married in Ireland. He joined the 54th Regiment of Foot at Maryborough in 1842 and was based in Colchester, Essex. After leaving the army he settled in Manchester. He had several sons Edward, Patrick, John, James, Michael, Francis and a daughter Mary Ann. His son Edward Tallent was my great grandfather and he settled in Manchester and then Stafford also after leaving the army (54th Regiment of Foot). There is a James Tallent from Maryborough born 1752 who joined the army (no further details) if he is any relative is unknown. Information required on James Tallent (born 1818) and Margaret Deegan and any relatives, dates, places etc.

Do you have Military records for your James ?

These sometime mention denomination which could help your search, as you will need to search church records for a possible baptism for James as the date is well before the start of civil records.

see : Introduction to Irish Records

The Tithe records were a type of taxation paid to the established church (i.e. Church of Ireland) based mostly on agricultural land, and these show one Tallent entry in Queen's County for a Michl. Tallent at Rahendusk and Raheen Horan in Kilteale civil parish, who may be a relation or even James' father.

see : Tall*t, Queen's Co.

The transcript is undated but some text in the introduction mentions 1826. This parish is not far to the east of Maryborough (now Port Laoise), town
