George Kirk & Elizabeth Rankin

I am having great difficulty locating the marriage of George Kirk and Elizabeth Rankin and also their whereabouts in 1901. I have tried the usual sources( family search, ancestry, findmypast, scotlandspeople etc) to no avail.
George Kirk b Liverpool abt 1842
Elizabeth Rankin b Glasgow abt 1848
They appear together in the 1881 and 1891 census with their family in St Helens ,Lancashire.
Elizabeth Kirk appears in the 1911 census, visiting her daughter Mary Jane Jones in Hunslet, Leeds, where she describes herself as being married for 42 years, with three living children and a Glasgow resident.
I would appreciate receiving any further information on George and Elizabeth.

Did you get her maiden name from one of the childrens birth certs? 

I notice the eldest child was 5 in 1881 b St Helens which is quite a while after an 1869 marriage but she may have miscarried/lost earlier children

There is an Elizabeth Rankin marriage in 1869 in Liverpool but it is to Samuel Minoa - a mariner

This couple then seem to disappear

Yes, I have seen a birth cert. for Mary Jane Kirk b 31 Dec 1877 Prescot, St Helens. with parents George Kirk and Elizabeth Rankin.
I found two marriages for Elizabeth in Liverpool in Oct/Nov/Dec 1869. One to Michael Mackin and one to Samuel Minoa

There was only one Elizabeth Rankin marriage in 1869 and it was to Samuel Minoa. www.lancashirebmd.org.uk shows Michael Mackin married Mary Eagin in 1869

The marriage cert shows Elizabeths father as John Rankin - occ carpenter but I can't find a Scottish 1851 match

By 1861 John has remarried to Jessie (nee Small). Entry on Lancs BMD also shows her as Janet.  Daughter Mary Ann is the only one shown as b England

 There is a :-

 John Rankin aged 20 Ships Carpenter Journeyman  b Renfrewshire
 Susannah Rankine aged 20  b Renfrewshire

As you know 1841 doesn't give relationship....could be a wife??
