Does anyone have any information or photos of the dwellings in East Shaw Street, Kilmarnock in 1871.
Thanks, pwl1951.

It used to be called Glen Street before East (and West) Shaw street were renamed in honour of the Riccarton man (James Shaw) who became MP and Lord mayor of London. Kilmarnock Academy has a WWW1 site on which they have lots of old photos of Kilmarnock and surrounding areas. I have been going through old family photos as a lot of our ancestors lived around that area (Peace and Plenty; East Shaw Street; Burnpark Row) so it's amazing what you can see in the backgrounds of photos if you have any as you can date the families to the area at that time.
The Burns Monument Centre may have some photos in their archives. I have checked the Streets and Neuks - Old Kilmarnock book, but there are no East Shaw Street photos. The Kilmarnock Standards (on microfilm) may have some old photos. It's worth getting the librarian/archivist to check the index at the Dick Institute or the Burns Monument Centre.

Thanks for that Helen. I fully intend to get up to the the Dick Institute and Burns Centre in the near future. Do they have microfiche of the Kilmarnock Standard?
