Porter Brothers - Missing after 1871!
« on: Friday 25 January 13 22:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

Brothers William Porter b1848 & George Porter b1852, both born in Fobbing both disappear after 1871.

William is Mistranscribed in 1871 as Perter & is in the Essex Lunatic Asylum in South Weald. I will be getting in touch with Essex record office regarding whether they have any record of him in amongst the asylum records. But after this sighting, nothing, no marriage, death or census returns. Could sks see if they can find him?

George is an ag lab lodging in Wennington in 1871, there are a couple of possible marriages for him in Romford reg district Sept & Dec Qtrs 1878, but don't know for sure if they are him or not. Also cannot find death or further census records for him. Could someone see if they can find him too?

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

David

If William remained in the asylum it's quite possible he will only be shown under his initials in later censuses.

Would suggest you search 1881 just using Essex as the county and South Weald as the civil parish

Then search for male b 1848 +-2yrs Essex  Fobbing and I'm certain you will find him!!

Re: George - have you tried just searching Geo** b Essex 1852 +-1yr

Hi CaroleW,

Many thanks again for your tips!

Have now found William still sadly in the asylum in both 1881 & 1891, but after that nothing!

Using your tip, i found a George Potter b1856 in 1881, but this chap was a grocer, whereas my George was an ag lab & this chap married in 1877 as George Wayland Porter & my George had no middle name. I don't think therefore that this is my George.

So have now moved William forward 20 years but still nothing on George as far as i can tell.

My thanks again.

Kind regards

David
