i am new to searching American data.what would i find on a marriage cert?

There is no one answer for this - it would depend on when and what state the marriage occurred in.

And of course the year of marriage. Many of the older ones just have the bride and groom's marriage date and names. Certainly in Florida (and possibly more states) the couple can get a marriage licence in say Pensacola and get married in Key West.

In my area of Pennsylvania most marriage licenses after 1880 have very detailed information name and birthdate of bride and groom parents names of bride and groom sometimes mothers maiden name. Some even list the person who performed the ceremony and where it took place.   Beans
