Have you found them on the 1911 census?

How many children do they have at that time?

Yes, there are none on 1911 census or listed, 1914 -1918 James was in Navy ww1.

Hi Paul

There is a small window between census night 2 April 1911 and September quarter 1911 when births in the index don't have a mothers maiden name.

It is therefore possible for a birth to be there but Walker is a frequently occuring surname.

There are no obvious births in the index after 1911 unless they were in the Leyburn registration district.

If Emma was born in 1873, married in 1907 but had no children by 1911 when she would have been 38, I would suggest they didn't have any children.

Of course they may have adopted. But as adoption wasn't legalised in England & Wales until 1927, there won't be any records. Adoptions before this were made as a fostering type arrangement or arranged by doctors or solicitors.

As James was alive in 1947 when I think Emma died, he most probably acted as the informant on her death cert. It might be worthwhile obtaining his death cert to see who acted as the informant. I had a look at the probate calendars but there weren't any obvious entries. A will might have been very useful.
