George EDMUNDS - Uncle?
« on: Sunday 03 February 13 12:59 GMT (UK) »
1881 census record shows William Grimsley living in Bicester with wife Eunice King and their two daughters. Also listed is:

George Edmunds age 59 (b.1822) Sulgrave, Northamptonshire. Uncle. Widow. Occ: Major Bengal Army.

Uncle? This only makes sense if Eunice's mother's maiden name was Edmunds? I don't know what it is so could be; don't see how it would integrate into the Grimsley line. I've tried to trace some records to figure it out but not really got anywhere.

Hi,

I think the answer is that he was probably William Grimsleys mothers brother. Looking at the 1851 census his mother Phoebe was also born Sulgrave Northants.  There is a probable marriage at Bicester in 1839 for a John Grimsley and on the same page Phoebe Edmonds.

Mo - I've just found that 1839 Bicester marriage between John Grimsley and Phoebe EdmOnds so sure that's made sense of Uncle George now.  :)
