1845 Marriage at Astbury COMPLETED with thanks
« on: Monday 04 February 13 15:55 GMT (UK) »
From the GRO index & CheshireBMD Joseph Pierpoint married Ellen Jepson at St Mary's Astbury in third quarter of 1845. Is anyone able to access the registers (they're not on FamilySearch or FindMyPast at this date) to identify their respective fathers, please?

I've seen the marriage licence which doesn't give either father's names. My gut feeling is that Joseph is the son of Richard (and Ann nee Jepson), but Ellen may be the daughter of either William (and Frances nee Tansey) or Thomas (and Sarah nee Wood).

Pierpoint gets several spelling variations & Jepson may also be Jebson.

Thank you

Hello,

In 1851, there is a Joseph and Ellen  living in Sandbach. Also in the household is Richard Pierpoint, 79 yrs father so your gut feeling looks right.

Joseph was a grocer from Sandbach, the son of Richard, a farmer; Ellen was from Congleton, daughter of Thomas, also a farmer.

Brilliant Bill - thanks very much indeed!

Hi
Have I got this right, both Richard and Joseph married a Jepson
Margp

Yes - Bill's answer shows they were first cousins. I'd thought this was likely as Ellen's uncle (Thomas's brother Ralph) in his will had named her as Ellen Pierpoint, but as there were two Ellen Jepsons of the same age from the same area I needed to be sure that I'd got the right one. Jepson & Pierpoint were common names in that time in their neck of the wood.
