Death at mine recorded in newspaper?
« on: Tuesday 12 February 13 17:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I have come across an ancestor's death at http://www.dmm.org.uk/colliery/w009.htm#i16328

"Johnson, James, 06 Apr 1927, aged 37, Stoneman, killed by a fall of stone"

Does anyone know if this would have been reported in a newspaper, and if so, where would I look?

Many thanks,

Paul Johnson

There would have been an inquest, which would probably have been reported in a newspaper covering the area, and a local library could have copies.

Hi Paul,

I have looked at the Northern Echo and the Darlington & Stockton Times but can find no mention of James Johnson, sorry.

Perhaps someone else can suggest other archives for newspapers for the relevant area....
