How do I fix photo sticking to the glass ?

A large picture of my maternal Grandfather (1878-1922) has recently come into my hands. The picture is of him and my Mother (1919-1977) in her christening dress. The pcture had obviously been stored in an improper manner and now there are portions of the picture sticking to the cover glass. I believe it needs to be removed prior to restoration.
Suggestions welcome.

Unfortunately once photos become stuck to glass it's extremely difficult to remove them without risking severe, irreversible damage.  Even specialist photograph conservators must consider the risks very carefully before attempting removal.  Usually we leave the photographs attached and suggest that the owner has a good digital scan made, which can then be restored.  The original photo can then be stored away.

If you don't have a scanner...you could photograh it and then post it on the photo restoration board to see if a good copy can be produced.
