Thomas Taylor from Church Knowle.

I can't see any entries for your Taylor family in Church Knowle, but on the marriage entry in Chaldon Herring, Thomas is described as 'of Steeple cum Tyneham'.

The baptism entries for Steeple have:
30 Jun 1782  Edward s Thomas and Mary Taylor
2 Feb 1792 James s Ephraim and Elizabeth Taylor
10 Apr 1803 Eliza Farrel d Ephraim and Elizabeth Taylor + others

Burials:
1818  Thomas Taylor (32)
1820  Thomas Taylor (77)
1821  Mary Taylor (82)
1847  Ephraim Taylor (76) + others

The Tyneham (the famous lost village) registers have:
19 Apr 1793  James s Ephraim and Elizabeth Taylor
16 Nov 1794 William s Ephraim and Elizabeth Taylor + others but none of Thomas' children

Chaldon Herring has:
1770   Effream  s Thomas and Marey Tayler

Given that Ephraim sen may be Thomas' brother, and that he has a rarer name, it may be worth looking for references to that name.

There are some Ephraim Taylors in Langton Matravers, such as the one born in 1714. The only Taylors having children there when Thomas was born are Edward and Elizabeth who had a son Edward in Feb 1745.

Thanks for the help. It’s a bit of a mystery this one. The Taylor family are all around Steeple, Kimmeridge,Tynham and Church Knowle and much later Swanage which is my late fathers home town. In the early days most were farm labours so moved around to get work. There were two Taylor families in Tynham this also causes confusion with me at times. Most of the info I was given by a cousin, I’m wondering if all the info is correct. I might have to start from scratch. It is probably the only way of sorting this mystery out.

This is better then the last time I posted for help on this matter. I've had your 1 reply.
 ;D

Thank you so much.

Albert Taylor (1871-1955) my great grandfather would mention to my father the tales and names Ambrose Taylor (1839-1907), Kezia, Maria and Sophia plus his father William (1794-1879) and grandfather Ephraim (1770-1847) who I have always believed to be the son of Thomas Tailor (1743-1820) of Church Knowle

Thanks for the reply. I have that info. Thomas is still the brick wall. I guess I'll never be able to over come it.

Hi
Have you seen the apprenticeship for him in 1760?

William Harris & John Corsefield Savage (both churchwardens of Steeple) and John Talbot, overseer of the parish place: Thomas Taylor otherwise Bridle, a poor child of the parish, is apprenticed to John Fooks of Steeple, yeoman, to serve his apprenticeship until he reached 24 years, 05 Apr 1760

It's at Dorset Archives reference D-BOC/UA/Accession889/Box15/D2
May be worth a look?

There is an Ephriam Bridle baptised at Steeple s of Anne 8.9.1745 and Thomas 7.7.1743 s of Anne Bridle.

Ann may have gone on to marry Daniel Edmunds at Wareham 13.101745.

Arround the same time there area two couples in the parish Henry Bridle  and Margarey/Margaret Barns married 1730 and William and Susanna Saunders married 1725.

There is a bond for Henry Bridle giving him as a yeaoman of Church Knowle 1733.

I'm assuming Anne Bridle's partner was a Mr Taylor.
