Would someone translate for me please?
« on: Tuesday 19 February 13 08:22 GMT (UK) »
Hi, If at all possible could someone translate this for me please. It is the obituary for my gt gt gt grandfather. My limited welsh thinks that it says something along the lines of he was very sad at his neice dying and that he was a good member of the church and worked his whole life as a quarryman, but its a little confusing at times for my limited welsh... any help would be great - thankyou to anyone willing to take the time to help me.

Blin genym gofnodi am ymadawiad sydyn ac anisgwyliadwy yr hen frawd hynaws William Kerfoot, Pengelli. Tarawyd ef yn wael yn nh ei ferch a'i fab ynghyfraith. yr wythnos ddiweddaf ymhen ychydig oriau ar ol angladd ei wyres. diameu genym i'r brofedigaeth lem hono bwyso llawer ar ei feddwl. yr oedd ef a'i briod alarus wedi ei mhagu yn anwyl ac edrychent bob amser arni fel ei plentyn anwylaf ac mae afon cydymdeimlad yr ardal yn sicr o fod yn llifo tuag at ei rhian weddw erbyn hyn ar gweddill o'r teulu yn y ddwy brofedigaeth agos ac anisgwyliadwy. dioddefodd yr hen frawd wythnos o gystudd caled a thrwn trwy iddo gael ymosodiad poenus o anhwylder ar yr afu, ac ehedodd ei ysbryd yn dawel. haner awr wedi tri o'r gloch. Yr oedd yn gymeriad a fawr hoffid gan ei gydweithwyr, ac yr oedd wedi treulio y gyfran fwyaf o'i oes yn mysg chwarelwyr yr ardal hon, yr oedd yn gweithio ers blynyddau yn Votty a Bowydd. Yr oedd yn aelod selog o Eglwys y Tabernacl ac yn cymeryd dyddordeb yn mhob un o gyrddau yr eglwys, ac erbyn heddyw gall fwynhau y gyfeillach berffaith fry. Lle nad oes neb yn tynu yn groes na chlaf o fewn eu chaerau. Mae i'r weddw a'r plant a Mrs Pugh fu'n ofalus o hono, ein cydymdeimlad llwyraf. Teimla'r teulu'n rhwymedig i Dr Jones a'r Nurse Jones. Dear soozieg,

It is with regret that we record the sudden and unexpected departure of the kind old brother William Kerfoot, Pengelli.  Last week he became unwell at his daughter and son in law's home a few hours after his grand-daughter's funeral.  No doubt that this sad bereavement weighed heavily on his mind.  He and his lamented wife had dearly reared her and always looked upon her as their dearest child.  The rush of sympathy from within the area towards his widow and the rest of the family in both of their near and unexpected bereavements, will by now be forthcoming.  The old brother had suffered a week of hard and heavy affliction as he had a painful ailment on his liver as his spirit flew quietly away at half past three o'clock.  He was a character and highly thought of by his colleagues, and he had spent most of his life among the quarrymen of this district he had worked for years in "Votty & Bowydd(??)" .  He was a faithful member of the Tabernacle Church and had an interest in each service at the Church.   By today he can enjoy the fellowship up above where no-one is dissenting or ailing within the walls.  Our deepest and utmost sympathy are conveyed to his wife, children and Mrs Pugh who looked after him.  The family feel obliged to Dr Jones and nurse Jones.  Burial at Bethesda on Thursday.
                                                                                                "Y Glorian" - 20th April 1912

I am not saying that the above is 100% correct but is somewhere near (hopefully!!!!)

Hope it is of some help,
Regards, Alltcafan  :)

In case you don't know, Fotty & Bowydd are quarries in Blaenau Ffestiniog; a Google search will give you photos.
