Keane family Glasgow 1921 ???
« on: Tuesday 19 February 13 16:36 GMT (UK) »

Hi,

Am wondering if the 1921 Glasgow census is available online or would it be considered
too recent?

I am looking for a family with surname "Keane" sometimes with spelling "Kane". There were 4 boys in the family -

Father Joseph Keane,
Mother Martha  ( formerly Richardson)
Children , -  Thomas Anthony,
                  James,
                  Francis,
                  Patrick
They moved from Ireland to Glasgow around 1920.
They returned to Ireland in the 1930's

I would appreciate any help any rootschatter could give me, Thanks in advance.

Mary

Welcome to RootsChat :)

Your query is a bit non-specific; there are 73,203 references on the Scotland's People web site to people surnamed Kane or Keane, and another 29,103 named Kean.

All the records you want to see are there, at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. It's pay-per-view, but modestly priced compared to most similar web sites, and you can search all the indexes free of charge.

Once you've had a look there, if you have any specific questions, do get back to us and ask them.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Garngad Thank you so much for this.   It is the correct family and I am so thrilled.

I had hit a brick wall with Joseph Keane who married Martha Fitzgibbon ( actually  in Cork,Ireland in the 26  July 1903.   I am totally stuck on James and his birth in Dublin.  On his marriage cert he said his father was James a jeweller in Dublin but I can't find any birth of a Joseph Keane with a father a jeweller.  It is possible when Joseph was born his father had another occupation may be pawnbroker.

I have almost exhausted all avenues at this stage trying to find Joseph's father hoping we will get a close dna match who might have the information.

Your link is such a great help I will follow up on it.

Thank you again.

Mary
