Sending GEDCOM to Family Tree Maker
« on: Wednesday 20 February 13 12:09 GMT (UK) »
At a recent FHS meeting a lady and I proved to have several ancestors in common. I offered to send her a copy of my relevant tree so that she could compare. She uses Family Tree Maker 2008 edition (updated 2009); this requires GED5.5 or above for transmission. I have sent her a file in this format from my Legacy7.5 (De luxe) but it will not download. When she tries she gets this error: X Attachment-id:f_hd7pr1 Ka0.

Does anyone recognise this please and is able to offer a solution to us? Thanks.

When you exported to Gedcom file did you choose produce file for:
Legacy - wrong
or for
Gedcom 5.1.1 only? - correct.
And when you say "it will not download" I assume you have placed your 'file.ged' on a web site for the lady to download to her computer so your friend should right click the link and save as...
or have you sent it by e-mail? And if so what is her e-mail client? Yahoo, Gmail, other.
The first two have links to click on to download.
And is your friend downloading the gedcom to her hard disk before trying to import it into FTM or is she trying to import it from your website/her e-mail programme. She should be doing the former.

cheers, falcybe

I produced the file for GED5.5.1 . It was sent by email, and her email client is talk-talk. The remainder I cannot yet answer as she is now away for about a week.
