James Muir,cant find his birth date

 Hi,
    I have hit a brick wall,I cant find the birth date of my Grandfather James Muir.I know his Parents were William Muir and Elizabeth Bragg, who were married in Dunfirmline Fife on the 30 September 1873.James Muir was married on the 12 November 1897 to Mary Clark at St Saviours church Glasgow James was 20 years old, and Mary was 19 years old, any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you very much.

Think Old Monkton should be Old Monkland 
Looking at SP there are no James Muir's born Old Monkland 1876/1877.
There are 24 James Muir's born Lanark 1876/1877

Was wondering where George Muir came from ? Found this -

Hello All,

Very unusual surname for Scotland, Bragg. there are only about 25 in Scotland, in 1881.

There is a death for a Elizabeth Muir Bragg, on Scotlandspeople 1896. age 51 years, St. Rollox, Lanark.

Eve i had already found that census for 1881, and did some further research for the mother Elizabeth Bragg. its very sad but here is what i found.

1881, Greenock Poorhouse, and Asylum Smithstone.

Eliz Bragg or Muir, Pauper, formerly Housewife M. age 38 years, F. no place of birth or country of origin.

As i said there there are very few Brag/ or Bragg's. in Scotland.

There is however a possible brother for Elizabeth Bragg, living in of all places Dunfermilne, age 32 years on the 1881. census.

Hello All,

Looks like the George Bragg, is related to Elizabeth Bragg, on the 1861 census doing a search on Scotlandspeople, there are four Bragg's, living in Dunfermline, Fife, coming up are Two George's and Elizabeth, living in same house, correct ages, with the older George Bragg, aged 39 years, most likely the father.

This George Bragg, seems to have died 1880, aged 59 years, Dunfermline, Fife. which is a fit with the census.

               Sorry for not adding to the previous link,but thanks for all information you have provided me with.The information about Elizabeth was very sad,but helped a lot. You Rootchatters are really some thing else,I got the birth date and place of James Muir plus lot more besides.

From the details provided by Jonn regarding Elizabeth Bragg, you might be able to follow through on some of the medical records for her. She also showed at the 'Greenock Poorhouse, and Asylum Smithstone' in 1891 although from what Jonn also mentioned she died later in Glasgow.

Whatever the outcome, life must have been hard for Elizabeth and the family regardless
