Baptism records of 1916 - St Paul's Church Colchester
« on: Thursday 21 February 13 17:39 GMT (UK) »
Maurice James Folkard was born in Colchester in 1912, his sister, Florence Grace Folkard was born in Colchester in 1916.   Family notes say Maurice and Florence were twins (which cannot be correct) and that they were baptised together in St Paul's church on 19 March 1916.

Has anyone access to St Paul's baptism records - if so, just what is recorded :-\

Grateful for help, please

Yes the baptisms were on that date at St. Pauls, no birthdates given. Address was 27, Gladstone Road. Florence had the additional name Mary. Fathers occupation I can't quite make out ???? R.H.A, could be Private.
Parents Joseph George and Grace.

Thanks Sue :)

Father, Joseph, served in the Royal Horse Artillery during world war one and he was wounded while on active service in the Dardanelles.  It seems rather late to baptise Maurice (born 1912) four years later in 1916 to co-incide  with the birth of his sister, Florence (born 1916).   Can we ever know and understand what the pressures of war brought on our ancestors - Maurice's baptism must have been delayed for reasons (his father being away?) we do not know :-\.    My next step must be to search for Joeseph Folkard's war records.

Many thanks for your help

Joseph George Folkard was born about 1892 in Colchester and Sue has found a 1916 baptism entry
for his children which suggests he was a  "Joseph Folkard, a Private soldier in the RHA" (Royal Horse Artillery?).   Old family notes also support his service in the RHA, but............I've tried without success to find any war/medal records.

I wonder if anyone has better eyesight, or, am I better posting this on a different (Army records) thread?

Help and advice please

Sorry, from what you'd said about not finding it I assumed you had access.

It says he was a Cpl.,

Have no idea what the last one is.
