Clapham Rise, Nelson
« on: Friday 22 February 13 23:42 GMT (UK) »
In the Colonist newspaper from Nelson dated 28 May 1867, there is a birth notice for a child of Sergeant Major Alborough of Clapham Rise.

The name is mentioned in the same paper in 1869 in relation to a whirlwind, so the place would appear to be in or near Nelson, and not referring to Clapham in London.

Similar notices in the Nelson Examiner.

According to a couple of property for sale notices it may have been the name of a property rather than a location. Owned by a W HALE.

Any Nelson folks out there who can help with anything about it, where was it, etc.

Thanks
Ian C

Hi,

Not sure if this will help any

Paperspast
Nelson Examiner and New Zealand Chronicle, Volume XV, 11 October 1856, Page 2
TOWN PROPERTY FOR SALE - All that property known as Clapham Rise consisting of 67 acres of freehold land fronting the Waimea Road  etc etc etc

I wonder if there are any historical maps of Nelson that might help.
