Alice Mary McClaughlin born 1909 Ashton under Lyne

I am trying to find the birth of Alice Mary McClaughlin (cld be spelt McCloughlin) born 1909  in Ashton under Lyne. Have tried Ancestry, Lancashire FreeBDM. She emigrated to USA when she was about 12 or 13. Todate I can't find any tace of her birth. I presumed that Ashton under Lyne was in the Lancashire Reg District as it changed from Cheshire earlier. Has anyone got any ideas where else I could look please. Getting desperate

The closest I can find in Ashton on FreeBMD is Alice Mary Bennett McLoughlin b. Sept Q. 1908.  Does the name Bennett connect with any other family members?

Is she on the 1911 census?  Who were her parents and how old was she in 1911

Are you sure that McCloughlin etc was her birth surname

Pam, what evidence do you already have to suggest her birth year/place, and that she emigrated to the US age 12/13?

I've just checked out the 1911 census and found Alice Bennett McLoughlin, her parents are Edward & Annie plus they have other kids and she was an only child.

My friend's husband was born in USA and his granny was the said Alice, she died there too. He wants me to find out about his granny and I can't even find her birth here!!! She told the family just her & her mum went to USA so not sure if father was dead by then or she did a runner. Thought she might have ben American came to England then back home to states. Can't find her on passengers lists either??

Are you sure your friend hasn't given you her married name rather than her birth surname?

You say just Alice and her mother emigrated - that could also mean she was illegitimate.  Her mother may have married a McLoughlin etc in the US and Alice took her stepfathers surname

Does your friend have a full birthdate for Alice - day/month/year.  What documentary evidence shows her birthplace as Ashton under Lyne

Ashton under Lyne was it's own registration district and there is only one Alice Mary birth there between 1908 -1910
