Have you searched the records of maritime deaths that are on findmypast.co.uk ? (I don't have a sunscription so can't look it up)

Maritime deaths

Approximately 949,890 records of maritime deaths.

This is a varied collection of records from The National Archives, which contains vital information about your maritime ancestors' deaths. The records cover the period 1794-1964 and include many different record types from various TNA record series.
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

You can do a free search for FindMyPast records-
http://www.findmypast.co.uk/search/all-records

Added- did you not first check FreeBMD? there is a death registration in Gateshead district 1905 for a William Cornett (no age given but perhaps informant didn't know that information) - www.freebmd.org.uk
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

The original index gives his age as 62.

On this thread his birth date is given as 1862/3 so this William would seem to be too old.

Re William Cornett.  I saw that obit but too old.  Family history says William was a sea-going engineer (from a daughters birth certificate) supposedly died at sea or in San Francisco about 1905.  Nevertheless wife and 3 daughters left for Canada 1910.  Unable to find any info on William-jumped ship?  Any ideas?  Thanks
