Which Harriet was he married to!
« on: Tuesday 26 February 13 01:16 GMT (UK) »
I have got a Samuel Chalk born abt 1814 Wiltshire. He married a Harriet, but I have found two marriages of a Samuel and Harriet. They had a daughter Emily b. 1842 who married a Henry Hood. I'm afraid thats all I know.
Thanks

There are 2 Emily Chalk in 1851 census. One with her parents Samuel and Harriet

Samuel Chalk 37 shoemaker employing 1 man
Harriot Chalk 35
Samuel Chalk 13
Emily Chalk 8
Robert Chalk 6
Ellen Chalk 3
James Chalk 5 months

the other with her grandfather Levi, bricklayer, who seems to have married a second wife Elizabeth age 31

Levi Chalk 60
Elizabeth Chalk 31
Charles Chalk son  20
Fanny Chalk dau 16
Isabella Chalk dau 12
Emily Chalk 8 g/dau

So if there are 2 Samuels I wonder which Samuel had a father Levi?
The marriage cert could be helpful in naming Emily's father's occupation - if one was not a shoemaker! :)

Marriages Mar 1871
Emily Chalk and Henry Hood
Alderbury
5a/255

There are two public trees on ancestry which have your Emily's parents as Samuel Chalk and Harriot Andrews.  The source is Pallot's marriage index but of course the only info on this is the place, the date 1835, and the names of bride and groom.

The only marriage of a Samuel to a Harriet on familysearch.org that is showing for me is Samuel to Harriet Hand. The 2 trees have their Harriet as Hand/Andrews.  Hand I suppose being a variation of Andrews?

I think the other Emily could be the dau of an Ann Chalk, possibly illegitimate and bpt March 1843 at Whitechapel.

The Wiltshire BMD index is helpful, as mother's maiden names are included.

The entry for Emily Chalk born 1842 shows her mother's maiden name is Andrews.
