A descendant of Frederick Cornwall posted a list of his ancestor's ships and their masters on Rootsweb back in 2000 http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/MARINERS/2000-04/0955449583.  Thomas Goodsir gets a 1786 mention with Fortitude Success.

Since the Newspaper report seems to be sometime after the Lloyd's entry I took 'Late' to mean dead, what think you?

I have come across it many times, always in the context of "formerly commanded by" rather than "deceased".

John, don't confuse Lloyd's Register, an annual volume, with Lloyd's List, a twice weekly newspaper. The Norfolk paper will have taken the item from Lloyd's List because it was of local interest and that's why there's a week's gap. LLoyd's Register information was often a year out of date.

If you are lucky, burial registers of parishes adjacent to the Scroby may record some of TRANSFER's dead, sometimes even by name but more often "drownd seaman from ****** vessel".

Tammy Goodsir, of South Moor Street, Bishopwearmouth, born c. 1782 was buried in Sunderland in 1834.

Cheers,
Westoe

Hello John,

Dawn is still active on the lists. You'll pick up her new email address by searching the January 2013 Mariners List Archives.

Cheers,

David Goodsir was born at sea on 8 May 1816 according to his 1850 claim for a master's certificate. Started his career in 1828 as an apprentice on a Scarborough coal ship.

Sorry Westoe
Was just about to answer and neighbour arrived!! Thanks very much for that news, at least she didn't have to die at sea. Now Bishopswearmouth is a strange coincidence - Tammy's Grandaughter Lavinia Tillman born in 1838, in 1867 married a certain William Angas, (Whose father Silas Angas was another Master Mariner) - The Tillman Family were Carriage Lamp makers in London, Silas was in the Trinity Houses in Deptford, while William was working for an ironmonger ( hence he met Lavinia ,while selling ironmongery to her father? ) having married they all  (Lavinia and Angases )went to live in Bishopswearmouth in Sunderland !!!!!!!

Shaun -Help!!

Am getting confused again, did Thomas's wife die and Tammy take over the family in 1822, or was that another Goodsir?  Do you think.

I think he may have been married to an Ann, and then to a Mary Ann who must have died around 1821, and then married to Tammy.

Son David Goodsir appears to have settled in South Shields - not very far from Bishopwearmouth (9 miles or thereabouts). He's there in the 1861 census with wife Eliza and children. A master mariner and a publican, born "North Atlantic Ocean".
