What happened to Richard Haskett from Newmarket?
« on: Tuesday 05 March 13 14:24 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for any information on Richard Haskett, who appears in the 1871 Canada Census:

http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/census-1871/001101-119.02-e.php?person_id_nbr=2673978&interval=20&i=jpg&PHPSESSID=bg87h3eiqemgal2nfpdc5u4gt5

He is 9, son of David and Johanna, who moved from Ireland with him and his siblings. I can't find him in the 1881 Census, but I believe this may be him in the 1891 Census, aged 27:

http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/census-1891/001081-119.02-e.php?person_id_nbr=2254615&page_sequence_nbr=1&interval=20&PHPSESSID=9pncc0p4bdl2irua3tts025d10

I can't make out his relationship to the head of the family though. There is also a Margaret Haskett (70) and a Louies? Haskett(23), and also a David Fardy? (62).

I am looking to see if he had a family of his own.

Thanks,

David

Although, I just spotted this marriage record, between a Richard Haskett and a Louisa Faraday, in 1890, which identifies Richard's parents as David Haskett and Bridget Kelley, so that doesn't match up with his parents from the 1871 Census (David Haskett and Johanna Haskett (nee Cummins)):

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FMV2-1C3

so this doesn't look like the Richard I'm looking for

Have you looked at this newspaper source?
It looks like there were 2 David Haskett's - perhaps father and son.  The images are very hard to read - if you choose the PDF format you can at least use "marquee zoom" to get a closer view.
There are a number of Haskett entries - there is an obituary for Louisa.

Online family trees show the Richard who married Louisa a son of David Haskett and Marie Gleason which conflicts with the marriage record.  The family trees link an 1871 census to the family of David and Marie in Newmarket without a Richard showing on the census.  Online family trees with Johanna Cummins as wife of David show that they had a son/stepson also called David.  Is the Richard on the 1871 with David and Johanna actually a grandson?

Hopefully you'll find some clues to unravel the family in the newspapers.
