William Griffiths b. 1824 Llanfair Talhaiarn & Sarah Edwards b. 1823 Llangollen

I am seeking information on William Griffiths and Sarah Edwards who married in Wales in 1844 and in 1853 immigrated to Victoria, Australia along with their two children John and Maria. In Victoria they had another three children - Mary Elizabeth, Thomas and Sarah Ann. They later moved to New Zealand where their daughter Mary Elizabeth Griffiths (my great-grandmother) married James McEwin in Reefton in Aug 1878. Sarah died in 1892. Her funeral notice shows that she was buried in the Reefton Cemetery on 28 Jan 1892. I have no information however about the death of William. Does anyone have information on this? The words of Sarah’s funeral notice indicate that William was still alive at the time of his wife’s death. I am also seeking information on their children John, Maria and Thomas Griffiths. I am unsure what course their lives took and would welcome any information. I know a little about the youngest child Sarah Ann Griffiths - she married William Goodyer in New Zealand in 1879.

1896/2129 Griffiths William 76 years   .... correction 73 yrs, must have been reading wrong line  ... went back to narrow down date, there are a couple of others in 1892/3 but they are 60 yrs and 65 yrs, 76 yrs was 1902

died at 31 Little Gibbs? St ,aged 34 brain hem.

For the peeps Mary Elizabeth was born in Ballarat 1856 and Thomas 1858.

A lot of results to look through and getting late in day, found an obit for April 1910 of a very old resident of the west coast but on BDM he was William Griffiths 63yrs! .... perhaps obit really meant he had been a resident for a long time

The 1896 death entry for William Griffiths aged 73 years, I've narrowed down to being 5.10.1896 for d.o.d.

Unfortunately Reefton Cemetery data isn't online, if the 1896 death is William, he would probably be at Reefton with Sarah.

Hi,

Checked my burial locator and there is no William buried with Sarah at Reefton. Only a 1917 and 1941 deaths, both females.

We have some wonderful detectives here who will probably ferret around for you.

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, you offered wise advice. I have now been moved to the New Zealand board. I’m all new to this website and it’s taking me a while to know the ropes.
