Likewise me and James Lawson, a weaver from the same area. I think his work was seasonal as he was also a salmon fisherman.

Woolamai - What information do you already have on Alexander Peddie ? Any dates or clues?

Martin  -  I have a James Lawson too who was from Newburgh, Fife. My 5 x Great Grandfather. Born around 1757 who married a Christian Ramsay in Strathmiglo in 1784.

Auchtermuchty and Newburgh are only about 6 miles apart. Auchtermuchty is also in the area.

There were lots of weavers in this part of Fife and being a Salmon Fisherman too would not be unusual. The looms were usually set up in their houses. Down on the coast (East Neuk) around St Monance/Anstruther/Pittenweem the fishermen worked as agricultural labourers when there was no fishing available. Needs must to feed their families.

Alexander Peddie was born in 1811 in Auchtermuchy. He appeared in a court case whereby Grace Traill was given aid to persue a case against him for maintenance of her/his daughter Williamina Peddie who was born in Auchtermuchy on 3rd August 1848. They lived in Burnside. He also had a child Jean Peddie in 1845 (I do not know her mother). He then seems to have settled down with a lady called Janet and had another 6 children with her.

Dorrie, I will send you a personal message with my email address so that you can contact me if you wish. James Lawson is my Alice's ancestor rather than mine so we are not related but you are related to Alice. He is her great great grandmother's grandfather. I am also in contact with a descendant of James Lawson's son John.  He has Patersons in his tree.
