Seeking details of births of Maxted Ansell (circa 1845) and Francis Larkins (circa1815). Also Susannah Larkins (Circa1855). In addition I am after information regarding Maxted Ansell's father John. All these people lived in Nonington or Eastry.  Baillans(

Hi Billans,

There is quite a lot of info available on the net about these people. This is a quick summary of some of it.

I guess you have the marriage cert. for Maxted Ansell and Susannah Larkins.

Can't find Maxted in any census, but the ref. for his birth cert. is Sept. q. 1845, I of Thanet, 5/469. The index entry on FreeBMD says just Ma* Ansell, but you are able to look at the original and it definitely says Maxted.

Found a marriage in June 1844 between John Ansell and Selina Septima Maxted (Eastry 5/189). Would seem to be a pretty good guess for Maxted's parents?  This Selina's death is registered in both March and Sept 1856 (Eastry 2a/397).

Susannah Larkins turns up in the 1861 census living with her father Francis, a gamekeeper, widowed in Nonington, plus her aunt, Ann, and her brother Francis.

By 1871 she and her brother are living with her grandmother - a stroke of luck, because it gives some new names!

Grandmother is Maria Holttum, a tailor employing three man. In 1861 this is spelt Halttum.

There is a marriage between Francis Larkins and Susannah Holtum in Jun q 1852, so it is a fair bet that these are Susanna's parents.

I'll send you a PM with more detail and some references.

I notice there are people in RootsChat tracing Maxteds in Kent - there could well be a connection with your lot!

Cheers,

Ros

Dear Ros,
I'm tremendously grateful to you for the information about Maxted Ansell and also John and Selina Septima Ansell. You have no idea how much trouble you have saved me, as I've been scratching around for months. Now I am able to arrange for their certificates. During the weekend a lady by the name of SueTeakle gave me an enormous amount of census information, including news of Susannak Larkins, my grandmother, and the Holttumswhich you also mentioned. Every piece helps to fill in the gaps, but your help has been inestimable. My grateful thanks to you !!  Billans
