Benjamin Jones C. 1766 - 1838
« on: Friday 22 March 13 13:50 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the birth and, hopefully, the  parents of Benjamin Jones, a Welshman who "emigrated" to Somerset c. 1790 and settled there for the rest of his life. He was a miner. In a Settlement examination in 1805 at High Littleton he states he was born in "Betthurst" in Cardiganshire. Bearing in mind his Welsh accent in rural Somerset I judge this to be Bettwrs. But which one? Please can anyone throw any light on him?

Yes, it could be as this is the biggest of the three Bettws in Cardiganshire. One of the others is BETTWS-IEUVAN and the other Bettws-Lleuce! There is also a Bettws in Carmarthen shire, but the Somerset interview definitely says Cardiganshire.
