William English/Jane Oakman County Antrim
« on: Friday 22 March 13 21:34 GMT (UK) »

I am looking for information on a William English born 1804 County Antrim married a Jane Oakman
who was born 1797 believed to be Glenavy. They had a son George born 27 Sept 1839 Ireland and according to the 1851 Canadian census for Asphodel,Peterborough County ,Ont they also had a daughter Isabells who was born 1841 Ireland.

The family immigrate to Canad ca 1844 when George was 5 years old.Never found a passenger record for them at all have no parents names for William or for Jane. Although there was a William Oakman born 1763 Ireland who had a daughter Jane born 1796/1797 along with 9 siblings .

Someone sent me the following information  from the Tithe Appointment Book of 1827 William English is  recorded as having a small farm in the townland of Lisnataylor, Parish of Killead and a short distance away lived a John Oakman in Ballmacmary.Wonder if this could be William's father or perhaps Jane's family.

We have always been told the English family came from Belfast but the above record for the Parish of Killeed could be right as  I understand it is outside of Belfast in the district where the Belfast International Airport stands today.

Does anyone know how to find out which Church of Ireland Parochial Records survived and where they are held.

As a newbe to Irish research I am in need of all the help I can get. I have searched pretty well every website to do with Antrim/Ulster but because of the timeline for my research I am thinking parish records may be the way to go.

Copies of most church records for Northern Ireland are held in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast. Here’s what they have for Killead parish, Church of Ireland. A significant proportion of early Church of Ireland records were destroyed in a fire in 1922 in Dublin, during the civil war. Unfortunately this parish’s was amongst them.

C.I. Killead (Connor diocese) [Earliest registers destroyed in Dublin]
Baptisms, 1838-1966; marriages, 1845-1997; burials, 1873-1942; vestry minutes, 1829-1900; cash book, 1874-1925. MIC 1/293.
