1896 IOW
« on: Tuesday 26 March 13 02:41 GMT (UK) »
Just found a little book of Prayers amongst my stuff, that I was left by my Nan.   Now it must have belonged to a relative of hers as she is descended on her Mothers side from the Yorkes.  It has the name Louisa Yorke  1896  Isle of Wight written inside.
I have traced quite a few of her Yorke family and they are mostly from Shenton, Nr. Hinckley Leicestershire.   But I havent got a Louisa.... ???

My G.G Gran Sarah Yorke was the daughter of George and Sarah Green, and she was born in Shenton in 1841. She married Thomas Clarke and they had my g. Nan Alice, the mother of my Nan.

Sarah Yorkes siblings that I have are.  Ann, Mary, George, Charlotte, Eliza, Samuel, Joseph and Emma.

I have census returns from 1841 - 1871  and  this shows them born in Shenton and Sarah Green born in Stathern, I have her family also.
But No Louisa Yorke... so I looked at Georges Family - He is the son of George and Hannah Leavis, all this I have found some time ago.   And none of his siblings are Louisa, so she may be a cousin or 2nd cousin.

I would just like to see if anyone can find anything on her!?
but all I have is this beautiful prayer book, and her writing is quite grown up.  ;)  Showing her not to be a child when she wrote in it.
That means I am looking at her birth to be somewhere between - 1860 and 1875
not sure.
just something to mull through, if anyone has the time ...
thanks

xinia

Just thought I will check the 1911 now its out and see if I can find anything there...

Yes thank you,  I checked that one out in the middle of the night, and her Father is down as a Chelsea Pensioner, Luke Yorke.   So I need to find if Luke is in anyway connected with the Shenton Yorkes.  But it is such a common name, so will be a long haul.

The Louisa I/we (thank you)  found was born circa 1866 and married in 1896 so the book could be something she wrote her maiden name in just before marriage.  Who knows.

Still on the case.

Just found another prayer book, with the name Louisa Yorke 1898...... so that blows the 1896 marriage away.

It looks to me as though Luke was this one at Sibbertoft in 1841

Michael York 55 carrier y
Elizabeth ditto 55 y
Job ditto 27 ag lab y
Luke ditto 16 ditto y
Alfred ditto 12 y

That isn't too far from your lot :-)
But it does look as though Louisa A married in 1896, I agree on that.
