Power family
« on: Tuesday 26 March 13 21:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi I have Charles Power living at Camolin Gorey in 1930 he would have been 20/22yrs at that time.
He gives his occupation as dealer, I think this may have been horses. Would this area have been similar to a small country village? Any ideas on how I could find out where he lived or maybe went to church.
Many thanks for reading this message. :)

You can see Camolin on the Griffiths Valuation maps. It’s about 330 acres in size, rural land, with about 6 households there in the 1911 census. You don’t say what denomination he was but if he was Church of Ireland, then there was a Church nearby.

Good Morning Elwyn.. Many thanks for the info on Camolin, six households so very small area for families.  I think he was Roman Catholic.

Hello,

I just had a quick search elsewhere and there is a similar post which mentions a wife Katie. Do you have the marriage certificate? That would give you some information about him e.g. his father's name and where the marriage took place.

What information is there re Stephen - any occupations/ addresses in marriage or birth certificates?

Hello Heywood, I do have a marriage cert but not sure if it is Charles? ??? his father's name is Stephen Power the details are Wexford RC church 1931. As Elwyn points out only six households in 1911 census, I was thinking perhaps Charles maybe living with family members of his or his wife Katie nee Ward. Thanks for your interest shown.

Does the certificate give any details re Stephen?

Charles would presumably not be living with his wife's family in 1911  :-\. I think I read that you have  an address for Charles' birth? Where was that?

'Would this area have been similar to a small country village?' Yes Camolin is a  small country village. 339 people lived there in 1911 according to 1911 census. Catholic Church (Church of Immaculate Conception) and Church of ireland (St Catherine's Church).

Sorry to go on a bit- was Stephen a tinsmith in 1908 for the birth and also 1931 for the marriage?

Also do you have the marriage details for Stephen Power and Kate Kelly?
