Hampstead Norris marriage Goody - Pococke

Hi

Please could someone who has access to parish records or Bishops transcripts check details of a marriage or Richard Goody (of the Newnham Murren parish in Oxfordshire) to Mary Pocock (or Pecocke of parish unknown) who according to Family Search were married in Hampstead Norris on 8 May 1766.

I am interested to know if there are any records of who the parents were of either Richard or Mary or witnesses if recorded.

            There is this baptism from OFHS Newnham Murren PRs.......

 12 Sep 1747 Richard Goody son of John and Martha

Marriage incase the above is correct

Thanks for your reply. I am aware of the Richard Goody with parents John and Martha. However I believe that my Richard Goody was the son on Richard and his wife Ann Evans, and was baptized in Newnham Murren on 20 May 1744 (Info also from OFHS PR's).

I also believe that John Goody and Richard Goody (sen.) may have been related given that they lived in the same parish and area of Oxfordshire.

I am hoping to find some additional info on the Hampstead Norris marriage record.

The Berkshire FHS marriage CD doesn't have any further information, other than that Richard was from Newnham Murren.

However, it does indicate that they married by licence, so it might be worth your while trying to get a copy of the licence.

Thanks for your reply. Where should I look for a copy of the marriage licence?

Might the reason for the marriage licence be that Mary was pregnant? The OFHS (and Family Search) birth indexes appear to indicate that their first child Benjamin was baptized at Crowmarsh Gifford on 7 Dec 1766 less than 7 months after the parents marriage.

I'm not sure.  They might be online on one of the big sites like Ancestry or Find My Past but, if not, I'd contact Beverley Archives and ask them if they can provide you with a copy (assuming its survived). They'll charge, of course!

Otherwise, try asking on here if anyone has access to the licences.
