Oaten Hill, 3 St. Sepulchres, Canterbury.
« on: Saturday 30 March 13 09:12 GMT (UK) »
In the 1851 census, I found Oaten Hill, 3 St. Sepulchres, Canterbury.

Residents: governess, teacher, nine male scholars between 6 and 11 and three servants.

Anybody know what this place was?
Thanks
Christine

unfortunately, not anything conclusive so far. Not even on the old maps I have looked at. That is why I asked for local (historian) knowledge, but thanks anyway.
Was just intrigued to know more.
best

Names and/or a census reference may help ;)

In an 1845 directory, under "academies" is listed Mrs WATSON, St Sepulchre's.  By far the majority of schools in that time frame were small, privately run affairs.  This one is marked as "taking boarders".  Can you follow it through the census to see if there is any other useful information?
