Also Henry Knowles Shepherd born Caton Lancashire England 1840 Illigitimate child to Alice Shepherd
I have hie christening record then  in 1841 and 1851 then nothing until his death in 1917 in Yorkshire and his probate record ( Not sent for his Will yet).

Hi

Thanks for the replies

I also saw that Lancashire census for the Alice shepherd that Jen posted, I'm not sure that's her, it's a possability the occupation ( Nurse) doesn't link with any others I have for her but the age and place of birth are a good match.

Jan Thanks for that information re the missing 1861 census for yorkshire, I was unaware of that.
may well explain them missing .

Any joy with Henry Knowles Shepherd 1840 Caton Lancashire ?

Kind regards Judi

Hi there,

Wondered if this might be Henry Knowles Shepherd in the 1861 census.
I looked under Henry Knowles as generally a surname as the middle name
means that could be the Fathers surname but the woman did not marry
him.
He is in the Ripon area of Yorkshire with Richard Knowles and his wife Sarah
He is 21 and classed as the son of Richard .
Richard was born in Wray, Lancashire which is 4 miles from Caton where
you mentioned Henry being born.
Also Jennifer has mentioned Alice is in Wray aged 49
Inglebrough is less than a mile from Burton in Lonsdale.
A Nurse could imply a caretaker, Housekeeper looking after children the house
or even a older person.  Doesnt mean they were qualified for a hospital.
My gggGrandma was classed as a Nurse and she was only 15.
The only thing about the Henry I have mentioned is his place of birth
has been put down as Ripon which covers a great area which the
Cathedral was in charge of.
Could be a missing link somewhere but these bits of information seem
to connect.

Hi Sandy

Thanks for the reply

I have just looked for the same family in the 1851 and Henry Knowles is listed with Richard and Sarah on that census too where as I have mine in 1851 living with his mother as  Henry Shepherd, so I sadly don't think it's him  >:(

Many thanks for the time and effort.

kind Regards Judi
