Help... I really don't know where to begin!
« on: Friday 05 April 13 10:40 BST (UK) »
Details from a 1952 marriage certificate:

Father: Stephen Quinn (deceased) merchant seaman
Mother: Elizabeth (I can't make out her maiden name but I think it starts with B) deceased

Father: Arthur Loughlin (Farmer)
Mother: Bridget (her maiden name looks like Hannity or something similar)

I'm guessing they were all born around 1900 as the married couple were 28 (Quinn)  and 18 (Loughlin) in 1952 and were married in Scotland.

They have have connections with Scotland and Ireland but i have checked to see if I can find any info on them but nothing. Where do I start? They could of come from anywhere! Help please

I wouldn't start guessing about the births of the parents.
Best to go one step at a time, so next will be to find births of the coupe that married, and as you have ages that won't be such a guess. That will at least find what part of the world they were born in. Hopefully you will then be able to find the parents marriage and work back from that.
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

I don't know whether you are aware, but Find My Past has some merchant seaman records which may give you place and date of birth of Stephen Quinn.

Liz - Thanks for the reply. The problem is I don't know if the married couple are dead or alive (I know they aren't still married) so I cant post their names for help. I have looked on Scotland people and find my past Ireland and their names don't come up or if they do the DOB doesn't tally with the marriage cert. I will have another look again incase I typed something in, incorrectly.

Spider - Yes, I came across this today and there is a couple of records that could be useful but how will I know that its "My Stephen Quinn"? I am waiting for some credit offers for that site so should be able to access those records then.

You could post the indecipherable surname portions of the marriage cert on the recognition board - that way you'll have a better idea of how to narrow down the search.

If either died in Scotland, then their death certificates should contain their parents names, which is one way of establishing whether any birth you may then find is the right one. I looked for a death of a woman named Quinn, maiden name Loughlin, born c 1934, for the years 1952 to 2011. There’s none listed in Scotland, so either she is still alive, or she died after 2011 or she died outside Scotland.

If you can make out the groom’s mothers maiden name you could do a similar search for the groom’s death.

Bruce - the ages were 28 (Quinn/male) and 18 (Loughlin/female)

Elwyn - the women in question (Loughlin) married again in 1957 and took the surname "Gillespie" but then she left him, I think they divorced but aren't sure. I also don't know if she reverted back to her maiden name or even remarried again. I know she did have family in Ireland but have no idea which part.

I am going to attemp to attach the MC to see if others can decipher the writing like spider suggested.

Its a toughy!
