Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland - Mary Anderson dob c.1848

I believe Mary Anderson was born to John Anderson and Janet Anderson (nee Heir) in about 1848 and her place of birth may have been Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland.  It is understood Mary emigrated to Queensland, Australia in 1864 aboard the "Sultana" ex Liverpool.  Mary would have been about 16 years of age.  I don't know whether she was accompanied by her parents or their fate.

If anyone could help me with Mary's exact birth date and place and the fate of her parents it would be most appreciated.

Thanks ever so much Ambly and EV.  I can be so hard over here in Australia tracking down accurate details of one's ancestors.

Mary ended up Marrying John Justins who was also on the "Sultana" with his brother George.

I believe Mary and John married in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on 25th April, 1882.  I have ordered the marriage certificate from NSW BDM.

Mary and John had three children, Arthur, Edward and Marion.  They ended up in Western Australia and the family had an association with Katanning in the Great Southern of WA.  My wife is a Justins and her family are from Katanning.

Mary and John went on to live long lives, Mary about 78 years and John about 82 years.  They are buried in Karrakatta Cemetery, Karrakatta (a suburb of Perth), WA.

Hiya,

Mary's father John could have died before she left (looks like her mum perhaps died between 51-61 census).

www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk   would be the best website to find out what happened to her father John. If he stayed in Scotland and died after the 1861 census his death would be registered. The death certificate should also give you his parents names. John might not have died before Mary left in which case he may still be found on 1871 census. Equally he could have already gone to Australia and Mary was travelling out to join her father??
And if Mary's mum (Janet Anderson nee Hair) died after 1855 there is a good chance of finding her death certificate with her parents names too .

Scotlands People's website is a pay to view site - £7 buys 30 credits. But be careful you can soon whittle down your credits eliminating wrong leads.

P.S. Had a quick look at Familysearch Scottish 1871 census and there is a John Anderson born Ayrshire in 1821 still residing in Glasgow. That's as much info as that site gives. Might be your ancestor

Maybe worth looking at the 1861 Census to see if that John ANDERSON  is a widower?

There is  a death registration:
Jane ANDERSON, other name HAIR
Died in Lanarkshire in 1864, age 39 (b abt 1825), Registered in Glasgow.

May or may not be Mary's mother - and you can't tell from the Index which surname is the maiden name 

In 1871, at 85 Garnethill St,  in Blythswood, Glasgow, Lanarkshire - there is:
Head: John ANDERSON 48, Coachman, b Ayrshire
Wife: Helen ANDERSON 32, b Lanarkshire
Son: Robert B ANDERSON 14, Brass Finisher, b Lanarkshire
Plus 3 boarders: PHILLIPS (b Fife), WRIGHT (b Clackmannan) and BOWES (b Berkshire)

If we could find that family on another census......?

Also in Glasgow St Paul is a John ANDERSON age 50, b abt 1821 Beith, Ayrshire. He's a waiter.

Also, an Elimination, in case it comes up:
A John ANDERSON & Jane HARE married 8 Aug 1846, Newbattle, Midlothian
This couple had issue:  Andrew born 1847 and an Esther in 1850.
They are all together in 1851 in Newbattle  - and this Jane ANDERSON other surname HARE is 39 (born abt 1812) and her husband is a Coalminer. In 1861 Jane is still in Newbattle with the 2 children, possibly widowed.
