Susanna Ann Goy
« on: Monday 08 April 13 19:44 BST (UK) »
Hi,
My 3 times great grandmother was called Susanna Ann Goy. Born in Emneth, Norfolk in 1816 I think.
Can anyone help me find out anything about her and her family. I have looked in the usual places.
Cheers
Nigel Payne

Hi Nigel

Do you need to go back or forward for Susannah?

I wonder if its worth investigating that she was Susannah Guy not Goy if the usual places have drawn a blank.  Did you get the marriage to Mr Stevenson from familysearch or have been able to get their marriage certificate for 1841?  Familysearch is only transcribed records and of course they may not be accurate if the writing was a bit funny

There is a Susannah Guy christened in Emneth on 6 October 1816, child of John and Martha

I agree the Guy baptism looks very likely.

Baptism: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NJVN-88R

Marriage: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NNRL-343

Obviously the marriage certificate will give you her father's name and occupation, to give you more to go on.

Hi,
Thank you.
I have searched the surname Goy on freembd and there are only 3 marriages during the entire 1837-1900 period. No births, No deaths so perhaps it is Guy. I will, if need be, get the marriage certificate of her and James in early 1841.
Cheers
Nigel

1851 census has John and Martha Guy living with James and Susannah albeit as lodgers but its too coincidental not to be her parents

John is 75 born in Cunnington, Hunts and Martha aged 68 in born in St Peters, Norfolk.  John is an Agricultural labourer

Cheers for that. Ag Labs are big in my family.
Great to have solved this mystery after 1 year. I should have asked earlier BUT I do like to find things myself.

Having the right spelling and surname helps too. Just found her fathers baptism so have gone back another generation.

Possible parents with the correct spelling of GOY on 1841 census. and mothers name Susannah,
which is often used for the first daughter.
She could have been married & left home before 1841 census if you have the correct marriage of 13th January 1841.
William Goy 1796.
Susannah Goy 1796.
Jane Goy 1826.
