Have you seen the Jane Phillips birth registered in Neath in Sep quarter 1855 (vol 11a, page 413).

We have asked, been told it's not her.
The 1871 says she was born in 1857 - and there's a birth registered in Neath in Jan quarter 1857 (11a, P419). How about this one?

We asked at the registry office for them to search 1855 and 1857. They also search the years before and after and they say nothing comes up. The weird thing is Thomas and Susannah registered the older siblings and the younger ones but not her.

Her siblings were; John Phillips, Thomas, David, William and Ann.

I would ask for another check for the 1857 birth

Would there be alternative sources for births? Could it be that the baptism records could had been destroyed/damaged?

1881 census has a likelt looking Thomas aged 54 and wife Susan aged 57. Havent aged between census so likely one set of ages are wrong.

Yes, the 1871 census is wrong - Thomas and Susannah have their birth years wrong. Though unsure if Jane's is wrong (need to find it) but we know John Phillips (1851) is still correct.

Would there be alternative sources for births?

Unless a baptismal record can be found showing her full birthdate and not just her christening date - then no

Perhaps somebody with local knowledge of any such event can help with that one.  The likeliest is lack of transcriptions.  You are very much dependant on the willingness of volunteers to transcribe entries from the registers

Whilst it completes things to have the birth/baptism info - being realistic - apart from her actual birthdate - what other info will you obtain from a birth cert or baptismal entry that you don't already know from census entries?

The birth cert will give her parents names and mothers maiden name - already known
Her fathers occupation - already known

The baptismal entry probably won't show mothers maiden name so you will just get the date of baptism and her parents names and possibly her actual birthdate but that's not guaranteed

Well we know who Jane's Parent's are, as she is with Thomas and Susannah in the census until she get's married just that I hoped for a birth certificate as I would not mind a precise date etc. I will check at Bridgend in case she was registered there. With thanks to all who helped.
