wiltshire /salisbury wills quickie

hi
i've got a probate registered for salisbury in 1889, and i see that salisbury doesn't appear in the registry list. I've found a link that says you can apply for postal searches and copies, which is in Leeds. It is the official Justice.gov website.
I just thought i would ask if anyone has done this for Salisbury or Wiltshire wills? I do have the full probate name and address, dates etc so that should be ok. Wondered if anyone had encountered problems that i could avoid now rather than wait weeks for them to reply with it?
appreciate any help thanks

For wills proved after 1858, Leeds is now the place to apply to. I have ordered wills proved in Manchester, Liverpool, London, Chester, Southampton - all from Leeds (or its predecessor, York), without any problems.

hi
i've got the copy of the will of my 2x gr grandfather. With regards to his children (now adults), what do i use to date the deaths of the children not mentioned? What i mean is the will is made 03 sept 1885, and he dies in 1889. If somebody due to share in the will dies, would their name be taken out or say deceased or just be left in?
By his death it looks like he's lost the 3 sons who i haven't completed. Didn't mention his burial sadly though i didn't expect it to.
appreciate any help thanks

The will you have will be exactly as it was written and signed by the testator: it can't be changed after his death. If anyone mentioned in it died in after it was made, that won't be shown in the will, unless the testator has added a codicil. If there is a codicil, you should have that with your will copy.
If someone isn't mentioned in a will that you might have expected to find there, that isn't proof that they have died. For instance the testator might have fallen out with them, or they might have already had what the testator considers to be their share whilst he is still living. There would be no need to mention anyone who was not receiving a bequest.

just another wills quickie. i've got a uk probate index for 1922, it's the normal looking write up but instead of saying Probate it says Administration and Will to.....
is that the same thing, or atleast does that mean that they are still likely to hold a will which i can order a copy of?
thanks

As much as I have done wills for Wiltshire, I can gladly say that the Swindon Record Office or Archives keeps a lot of the materials. For the period you seek I would make contact with them and give as much information to where in Salisbury , date of death etc and so forth, then a will may , if not in hands of a private Solicitors business ( and some date back that far)be available. If proven by forum of the courts , it may be as far away as Canterbury or usually after 1900 London. There was no one specific place a will was kept. Sometimes one evens finds them in the Great British Library... I would do as Little Nell says or has done and apply to Leeds... good luck

When there is no will, then someone is granted the right of administration of that person's affairs. Sometimes there is a will, but the person is granted administration and the will might be annexed.
The document(s) can still be ordered by post from Leeds.
