I cannot find him in 1861.   Perhaps you ought to put on a new post and ask for someone to go to Kendal Record Office.  The 1851 index booklets are on the open shelves there so should not take long to search.   1841 will be on film so takes longer.   Ring the office and ask if they can look - cheaply!    I have been there in the past when on holiday up there and they are very helpful.   Have you tried the Westmorland Look Up Exchange? - someone may have the appropriate books and do a look up for you.

There will be a link from www.genuki.org or try putting it in Google.     I think there is one for Westmorland.  there certainly is for Sussex!

Hi Judith,

Did you have Richardson ancestors still living in Kirkby Thore in the 1930's. A Mrs Richardson who was a widow who had been a farmers wife, Agnes her daughter, a son I think Jack, another daughter living in London & one in Scotland.
Let me know if you did.

Hi Jeffrey,
There would probably still be ancestors in Westmorland in 1930's as Matthews father Mark was one of at least 10 children. I have my tree posted at URL:         http://www.tribalpages.com/tribes/judith1977
Barbara Longmire and John Richardson were the parents. John was born 1779 his father was William christened 3 mar 1736.

I notice we share name interests as Armstrong, Thompson, Reed in Durham. Also the obvious Richardson's in Westmorland. You will find the names listed on the front page at my web page (i added previous message).
