Obits look up B.C & Tipper family Anvil Island
« on: Friday 26 April 13 19:02 BST (UK) »
I have a distant branch of My Bladons who emigrated to Canada.  I would like to fill in some blanks relating to

Edna Grace Smithson died 26 Nov 1972 Pentic an (known as Grace)
Robert Douglas Smithson died 26 Oct 1979 Oslo's (known as Douglas) his death certificate states he shot himself.

Their son signed Roberts death certificate but I can't read the signature! His address is given on the certificate.

Their death notices would be appreciated.

Also

Minnetta Elsie Taylor b: 1887 married Frederick Tipper they had a daughter Freda Elsie Tipper b: 1907 in Wolverhampton Staffordshire but in 1911 appear on the census in Anvil Island, Frederick describing himself as an engineer/brick works manager.  I can find no record of the family after this.

Any help appreciated with either families

Edna Grace Smithson died in the town of Penticton, British Columbia and Robert Douglas died in Osoyoos, a small town not too far from Penticton.
You could contact the public library in Pentiction and ask if they can provide obits/death notices for Edna Grace and Robert Douglas.

I found a Smithson at the same address as the informant on the voters list and sent you a PM since these people may be still alive.

Hi John

Thank you for the information and yes they could be alive due to it being fairly recent.

Thank you once again

Hi:

I've done a bit of looking for the Tippers. As you might know the brick manufacturing company on Anvil Island had ceased operations by around 1917/18. The island has been more or less deserted except for summer homes and summer camps since then.

A short search through some of the BC City Directories shows a Mrs. Elsie Tipper in Vancouver in 1916 and 1918, and one and sometimes two Fredk. Tipper's in Vancouver in 1913, 1914, and 1915. These might not be yours and they don't show up in Vancouver after that time. Certainly they didn't die in BC or their records would show up in the provincial death records which are searchable up until 1991.

The 1921 Canadian census will be available to search this year, hopefully you will be able to locate them on it.

Not much help I'm afraid.

Hi Sami

Thank you very much for the information.  I think I have found Fred Tipper (b1881) on ancestry uK incoming passenger lists, departing NY May 1915, engineer residence Canada giving a UK address at Willenhall where he was from.  I can't find any possible UK death

Do you know when the 1921 Canadian census is available?
