Wolstanton St Margarets Church
« on: Sunday 28 April 13 15:03 BST (UK) »
I am researching 2 weddings at this church as follows:

1798- 2nd December- Daniel Shuebotham to Hannah Baddeley- witnesses were John Hassall and Thomas Robinson

1800-7th April- John Caton to Martha Brundrett- witnesses were John Hassall and William Brundrett.

I have a conundrum re John Hassall- as I have a John Hassall in the 2 trees that i am researching and would love to know if this John Hassall was witnessing these weddings as a family member or as maybe a church official (in which case the family link would be irrelevant!)

Is anyone able to help in this respect please.

Many thanks

Caroline

Hi

Just checked a few marriages for random people and John Hassall was witnessing marriages to quite a few between 1793-1810, I should think he was a church official.

I think you are right in that John Hassall was a church official, I did a check on www.freereg.org for John Hassall under marriages in Wolstanton and 686 records came up with him as a witness.

My goodness! That is the end of that one then! The John Hassall I was looking at was a Yeoman of Audley, married to Sarah Bourne in 1731 in Audley- both he and wife Sarah are mentioned in a land conveyance Deed dated 1769.
If anyone can find out anything else about this particular John Hassall that would be good!
I am also convinced that there is a link across between the 2 marriages I mentioned through the name Brundrett but that is another story!
