On the transcription I have of the Charing Parish Registers there is no George Gilman (or variations thereof) baptised in or around 1748.  :(

However, have you considered the George Gillman baptised in Westwell (adjoining Parish to Charing) on 10 November 1744 the son of Richard and Martha.  George is the only child baptised to these parents in Westwell.  ???

I put forward this proposition based on the many children baptised to Richard and Martha Gilman between 1732 and 1740 in Godmersham.  Then followed by the burial of Richard Gilman on 20 March 1765 in Godmersham but brought from Charing.  ???

A possibility.  ??? ???

Regards,
Tony  :)

The Mid Kent Marriage Index may be helpful with regards to possible marriages of the other children http://www.woodchurchancestry.org.uk/midkentmarriages/index.php

Had some spare time in The Archives today and took the opportunity to look at the Allegation and Bond for the Marriage Licence for George Gilman in 1768.  Both parties were said to be of 21 years and upwards, but George was noted to be a Bricklayer.

Out of curiousity I found the same documents for the Licence granted when Richard Gillman of Godmersham married Martha Tapley of Chilham in 1731.  Richard was aged 34 and a Bricklayer and Martha was 19 years of age.  The marriage was to take place either in Chilham, or St Alphage, Canterbury.  I took place at the latter on 20 April.

Just a bit more grist for the mill.  ???

Regards,
Tony  :)
