**COMPLETED** Artists name
« on: Wednesday 01 May 13 08:10 BST (UK) »
Could some sharp eyed chatters decipher the name of the artist, in the will of Daniel Macarthur. I “think” it is Tavernor Huoth, but can find no reference to such a person. As a result, I assume my translation is incorrect, and would like to know the correct name

This is how I have deciphered it so far:
Janet Macarthur or Clements the Oil painting of her mother by Tavernor Huoth and my Gold Watch guard to whoome

I read it as Knott ... how interesting that he is 'known' so you should be able to find out a bit about him.

I thought it was a 'K' rather than an 'H' and nowI can see 'Knott' clearly.

I can find several references on the internet to 'Taverner Knott' which principally relate to his prowess at rugby and football; there is also an entry regarding a piece of furniture made by 'Taverner Knott'.  But so far I can't find any reference to him as a painter.

Thank you all for seeing what I was not able to. "Must go to Specsavers" ;D ;D even though eyes were checked by usual eye doctor.

As suggested, i have G****d him, and found out quite a bit about him. I will now have to see if it is possible to find a complete list of all his works, and then the whereabouts, if any, of the painting refered to in the will, an interesting chase.

Again, many thanks to all you sharp eyed chatters
