I believe one of the brothers, probably John (b 1898) or William (b 1908) emigrated to the US. In 1911 they were living in Salisbury Street, Bermondsey, London, with father Roger Carroll & mother Mary. There was a third brother Roger (b 1900). It might have been him but he married Elizabeth Coakley in Bermondsey 1922, where I think he stayed. Any info much appreciated.

If you have an exact date of birth for either of them or a middle name/initial, it might make it easier to pin them down.

John is of the right age that, if he wasn't in the military, he would have been required to register for the WWI draft.  There are over 30 WWI draft registration cards for men named John Carroll and born in 1898, so being able to narrow them down a date/month of birth would help.

All I have is John Roger and William Henry.

Hi

Have you checked the following

http://www.findmypast.co.uk/passengerListPersonSearchStart.action?redef=0

www.ellisisland.org

Only checked the lists on Ancestry. Not subscribed to FindMyPast but can get access at some point. Didn't know about Ellis Island site.  Thanks

There's a British WWI pension record for John Roger Carroll from 1917 that looks like a likely match.  His address was 22 Jameway Street, Bermondsey, and his next of kin was Roger Carroll at the same address.  His age was listed as 18 years 8 months.

From the England birth index, it looks like he was born Jul/Aug/Sep 1898.  There's a death for a John Roger Carroll of the right age who died Oct./Nov./Dec. 1980 in Gravesend, Kent.  Maybe him?

Thanks, shellyesq.  I reckon that's him.  In which case the most likely candidate for the States would be William Henry. At least it narrows the search.  :)

I'm guessing that the William Henry Carroll born April/May/June 1908 in Southwark, London is him, as it's almost the same location where a John Roger Carroll was born in 1898.
