Marriage, Pancras, 1916
« on: Friday 10 May 13 00:42 BST (UK) »
Hello,
Wondering if anyone has the parish records for Pancras, Midd., 1916.

I have GRO Q4/1916 1b/305 for John R (Robert) Cooper and Grace P. M. (Pauline Maud) Burghart.

John's father unknown
Grace's father Edwin Albert Burghart, occ., 'Machine Ruler'

Thanks

Ancestry, and London Metropolitan Archives, have London Marriage registers.

Unfortunately, I can't see an entry for Grace?

So, she was probably married at the register office, or at least not Church of England!

John Robert Cooper (and wife Grace) was naturalised in the US aged 33 on 18 Apr 1923.
It gives his DOB as 22 May 1889.

Maybe we can find the right birth for him and narrow down his parents?

He also fought for the Canadian Forces in WW1,it gives his next of kin as Mrs Sarah Cooper (mum maybe?) of 22 Charlston Street Walworth London ,he was a plasterers labourer.

Thanks KGarrad your reply
... being a very distant relative, being tight-fisted, not wanting to spent any pennies purchasing certificate.

... just for interest, trying to find when John Robert Cooper's parents, John Cooper and Hannah ?
were married. Have track JRB, who was known as Robert, on C1861 census and he was born St. Luke, Lambert, with his birth Q3/1860 1b/603 St. Luke, London.

His father born c1838 St. Lukes and mother Hannah c1838 Doncaster, Yorkshire.
A possibility is a Hannah Robinson to a John Cooper Q4/1859 9d/384 at Hull

Thanks Carol8353 for info on John and Grace - found that lot but very appreciative of your response

Now i'm confused!
Do you know his father or not?

The point I was trying to make is that a PR marriage entry may not exist?
In which case, the Marriage Certificate may be your only option?

You say that you don't know who John's father was?

Kgarrad is quite correct in that they may not have married in a Church Of England, especially with her surname being so foreign.Maybe they were Catholic or just married in a registry office,in which case the marriage will not be in the Parish registers.

Now WE know John's exact date of birth,we can probably find him with his parents in 1891.
Or have you already done that,in which case you'll know who they are  ;D

This looks like it might be his birth?

I thought John & Hannah were possibly  relatives of John Robert Cooper

Seeing as he puts Mrs Sarah Cooper as his next of kin - I think Sarah was his mother - living at 22 Charleston St Walworth??

1901
22 Charleston St Walworth

Sarah Cooper Head  widow 41 own means Malmsbury Wilts
JOHN son 11 Walworth
Caroline daughter 3 Walworth
William son 2 Walworth
RG13 385 122 42

John and Hannah (and several other families) live at the same address -possibly apartments??

it looks like John & Hannah were John Robert's grandparents

1891
151 manor Place Newington London
John Cooper head M 52 Oilcloth Dealer London
hannah wife Doncaster
Richard son S 20 Cork Cutter St Giles
Joshua son S 17? Cork Cutter hammersmith
William son 12 Southwark
Albert son 9 Southwark
Edward son 6 Newington
Rose granddaughter 6 newington
JOHN grandson 2 newington
jane mother in law widow 76 nottingham
SARAH daughter in law M 31 Wilts
henry Lyons Lodger 22 Cork Cutter Shoreditch
RG12 364 121 8

do you already have this information??
If so is this why you do not know the name of John's father??

His father is not with them in 1891 -by 1901 Sarah is a widow
None of the Cooper sons with them in 1891 are married???
